EFI University FAQs
Why should I attend an EFI UNIVERSITY seminar?
Attending an EFI UNIVERSITY seminar is a way for you to learn about how to build and use aftermarket fuel injection systems from industry experts. Previously, the only way someone could learn this information was basically trial and error, which could be very expensive in terms of damaged parts and could also take years to learn.
What sets EFI UNIVERSITY apart from other technical schools?
EFI UNIVERSITY is the only technical school whose focus is entirely on aftermarket performance. We teach our students real theory and practices used in racing today. Other schools build technicians who can troubleshoot and repair racing engines, while we focus on building valuable skills and knowledge that allows our students to design and build their own custom applications based on information and products available in the market today.
What can I expect to learn from EFI UNIVERSITY?
EFI UNIVERSITY doesn't just teach students how to plug in a laptop computer and start pressing buttons. We have a detailed curriculum that leads students through the entire process of engine tuning, understanding electronics, and using computer control. We emphasize heavily on understanding the how's and why's of engine and fuel injection theory.
I have already tuned several engines on my own using fuel injection. Would EFI U be a waste of time for me?
Absolutely NOT. We find that because of the lack of accurate information throughout the performance industry, even seasoned engine tuners can learn a great deal from the techniques taught at EFI U. Keep in mind that like any skill, tuning takes time and practice to become an expert.
I'd like to learn how to tune fuel injection, but I don't have any experience. Should I attend EFI U?
Yes! We find that younger students thoroughly enjoy our classes and have an easy time learning new concepts since they have not already been filled with inaccurate pre-conceived notions about how to tune an engine. We regularly see 16-17 year old students in our classes.
I'm an "old school" carburetor tuner and I'd like to attend a class. Which one is for me?
We recommend the EFI 101 class for everyone from beginners to seasoned tuners. This class is a prerequisite for the EFI ADVANCED class because it covers the necessary theory to understand engine tuning in general. We hold many seminars around the country throughout the year. Check out the schedule on our website for more details.
What fuel injection system should I use?
The answer to that question depends mostly on person choice. There are many quality systems on the market today that offer a wide variety of features. EFI UNIVERSITY can equip you with the knowledge to make these decisions based on what systems fit your needs.
Will I get to actually tune an engine at EFI UNIVERSITY?
In the EFI 101 class, the instructor spends most of the time in a classroom environment, and at the end there is a live demo on the dyno that the instructor will provide. In EFI ADVANCED, each student will spend time operating an engine on a dyno with their instructor and learn the ropes of tuning in real time.
I have already tuned lots of engines, can I skip the EFI-101 and go directly to the Advanced class?
No. Study has shown that the information delivered in EFI-101 is uncommon and not normally taught anywhere outside of the EFI-101 class, and to obtain this information elsewhere would require many hours of actual dyno time and individual study. If you already know everything that is taught in the EFI-101 class, then there is no need to spend the money on the Advanced class which is mostly a lesson in proper dyno and vehicle operation.
